Nueces County Commissioner Carolyn Vaughn says threats against her ‘have gone too far’

A Nueces County Commissioner says she’s getting death threats after comments she made during a Commissioner’s meeting.

Carolyn Vaughn, Nueces County Commissioner of Precinct 1, admits she expected some backlash after her comments last week regarding a proclamation issued by County Judge Barbara Canales but not to this extent.

That proclamation supported the local PRIDE parade which Vaughn says she does, too. But she doesn’t support all the wording on that document.

Since then, Vaughn says people have posted comments like “Kill them all alive” and “burn burn burn burn” about her and her family.

“I’m going to continue to be me and continue to be outspoken,” Vaughn said. “I did not take this job to be quiet. I’m going to be who I am no matter what the cost.”

The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office confirms they are investigating the threats. County Commissioners meet again next Wednesday.
