The beginning of the Lent season began Wednesday, and seafood is a popular option for those meatless Friday’s and the days of abstinence that are part of the season.

Morgan Street Seafood Company says this is a busy time of year for them, and they are always sure to have plenty of seafood in stock.

“This year, we have expanded our product line,” Charlie Alegria with Morgan Street Seafood said. “We’re bringing fish off the East coast, West coast, but our traditional locally caught fish like snapper and drum, yeah, we’re having a good supply of that.”

The Alegria family has been in the seafood business for 68 years. The original shop, called The Seven Seas Fish Market, was originally located on Staples Street near Six Points.

Their current location, at 1602 Morgan Ave., is open daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
