Emergency crews responded to a fire on the 700 block of South Port early this morning.

The call for the fire came in at 7:31 a.m. and crews were on scene at 7:35 a.m., according to CCFD Chief Robert Rocha. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke in a commercial building.

Firefighters were able to get into the building and gain control of the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to a second nearby building. The roof of the building partially collapsed due to the conditions, Rocha said.

No one was injured, Rocha said. Fire investigators are headed to the scene to try to figure out what caused the fire.

Rocha said it is believed that the building was empty when the fire started.

South Port is closed from Agnes to Mary while the investigation continues.
