Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Rockport today, inspecting a house under construction that will replace one a family lost in Hurricane Harvey.

The Rodriguez family didn’t have enough money to rebuild. So they applied to the Homeowner Assistance Program offered by the General Land Office.

The agency has allocated just more than a billion dollars in grant funds for discovery recovery.

“It’s coming along,” Bush said. “The government shutdown obviously impacts the pace of management of workflow from U.S. Housing and Urban Development.

“But all in all, when you compare this recovery to states like Florida or Puerto Rico (recovery), you’ll see that it’s been done in a historically quick fashion.”

This is one of the first two houses built under the program.

The other is in Victoria and the commissioner inspected both of them today.
