AUSTIN – While education seems to be at the forefront of the 86th Texas Legislative Session, one local lawmaker will file legislation he hopes will stimulate the Coastal Bend Economy.

Representative Todd Hunter is passionate about oyster farming and driving fishing and tourism to South Texas.

“When you think about it, in the last few years we haven’t seen the oyster industry like we used to have — with oysters on the half shell,” Hunter said. “It is a big travel tourism issue. It brings money into the state and it’s great for the Coastal Bend.”

Hunter also wants to assure the Coastal Bend is well represented at the State Capitol. He had a Texas flag surfboard created to hang in his new office to promote South Texas pride.

During his interview with KRIS 6 News, Hunter also discussed the importance of property tax reform and suicide prevention awareness at the legislative level.
