Nueces County has a new task force meant to stop drugs from coming through one of our major roadways.

The Nueces County District Attorney’s office created the team in March. The officers come from the Robstown Police Department, Nueces County Constable Precinct 5,the Corpus Christi Police Department, Homeland Security Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency and U.S. Customs.

This afternoon, the Task Force announced they’ve stopped ten vehicles along Highway 77 that were bringing drugs or drug money through Nueces County. The group said what makes their job difficult is the special compartments drug smugglers install to hide their drugs and money.

“Sometimes, they can be in rental cars, suitcases. You know, the ones we’ve seen, they’re in engines, gas tanks, tires. You name it and they’ll put it in there,” Robstown Police Officer and Task Force officer Isaac Deleon said.

The task force also showed off one of their K-9s, Harry. He’s with the Corpus Christi Police Department and has helped with several of their drug busts.
