It’s been more than 500 days since Citgo employee Alirio Zambrano left his home here in Corpus Christi, flew to Venezuela and ended up in a government-run jail there.

And his story, along with the rest of the men now known around the world as “The Citgo 6” is gaining more and more attention in some pretty powerful circles.

The Citgo 6 are six Citgo employees, five who are American citizens, jailed in Venezuela by a governmental regime that says the men stole from Citgo and committed treason, too.

But here’s the thing: While the men sit in jail, neither Citgo nor Venezuela have shown a shred of evidence in support of these charges.

And all 14 of their preliminary hearings have been canceled.

Now, Congressman Michael Cloud joins the chorus of voices expressing his support for the Citgo 6. He says the men, who are malnourished and sick, are starting to get more of the help they need.

We’ve been texting with Zambrano’s oldest daughter who lives in Houston.

She says she hopes her dad is doing well, but can’t really say. The Venezuelan government hasn’t let the men call home in five weeks.

More from her tonight at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight on KRIS 6 News.
