U.S. Attorney’s office reports seventh person has died in connection with last week’s Robstown crash

The U.S. Attorney’s office has confirmed that a seventh person has died in connection with the SUV crash near Robstown last week.

Early on June 5, authorities found a crashed SUV in a Robstown ditch following a chase with authorities the previous night. Six persons were found dead at the scene and nine more required hospitalization.

The U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed that another man, Augustine Gutierrez-Gonzalez of Houston, has been charged with harboring aliens in connection with the case.

The driver of the SUV, Ivan Puga-Moreno and two other passengers were found at Gonzalez’ Houston apartment.

None of the identities of the deceased or injured victims have been released at this time.

An investigation has indicated Puga-Moreno was the driver of the SUV and was attempting to smuggle 18 undocumented immigrants from South Texas to Houston.

If convicted, Puga-Moreno could face the death penalty.
