An update on where the proposed North Beach canal stands

Back in April, the North Beach Infrastructure Task Force unveiled its solution to the drainage problem there, a $40 million canal.

Where does that project stand?

That task force wants to dig a canal through the middle of North Beach, something members believe will finally solve drainage issues.

We’ll receive a tour of the task force’s two war rooms.

One to study and develop the canal and the other for the proposed breakwater islands designed to protect the shoreline.

We’ll also talk about the progress they’ve made and if opening the canal at the same time as the new Harbor Bridge is still possible.

We’ll have more coming up this evening on KRIS 6 News.

One of the task force members, developer Jeff Blackard, wants to make the canal the centerpiece of a Riverwalk-style attraction at North Beach.
