The city is paying one man big money to fix the city’s broken utility-billing system.

And, it looks like he’s making progress.

Things were so bad with the city’s utility billing program you couldn’t even see what they were really charging you.

Interim IT director for the City of Corpus Christi Peter Collins says they’ve fixed that.

“First of all, let’s just take the basic…you can actually read a bill and add up…do the math on it to get to a number,” Collins said. “Before that, you couldn’t even add it up and figure it out.”

The city brought Collins in last year to get the city’s multi-million dollar Infor Software platforms running the right way.

He’s earning tens of thousands of dollars a month under his deal with the city.

And apparently, they think he’s doing a good job.

That’s because City Council will consider an eight-month, $20,000 dollar-a-month extension for Collins at tomorrow’s meeting.
