President Trump offers some friendly advice to Boeing about troubled 737 Max

President Donald Trump knows something about business from his fabled career as a developer before moving into politics.

Trump tweeted today some guidance for the Boeing Co. about its 737 Max after the Lion Air and Ethiopian Air Lines crashes.

“What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become President!), but if I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 Max, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name,” Trump said on Twitter. “No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?”

The plane has been grounded globally after two crashes — the Lion Air flight 610 in October off the coast of Indonesia and the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 in March outside Addis Ababa. A combined 346 people were killed in those crashes. It also led to a global grounding of the jet. Preliminary investigations have pointed to flaws with an anti-stall feature.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration grounded the 737 Max on March 13, three days after the second fatal crash involving the jet in less than five months.

The agency and Boeing are trying to restore confidence in the 737 Max’s flying safety with the public and regulators around the world. The crashes have resulted in halted flights before the United States.
