Captain Richard King founded the ranch that bears his name 165 years ago. King Ranch lives on thanks to the hard work of the ranch hands he hired.
They are known as Los Kineños and many of their descendants still work on the ranch to this day.
Daniel Morales is a fourth-generation Kinenos and has worked at King Ranch for more than 37 years.
Morales and other Kineños will be recognized Dec. 1 as new signs will be placed and named after them.
These signs will be placed in the heart of Kingsville.
“To have the community recognize the heritage and the history that the Kineños have brought to this community, it’s really special to us,” Morales said.
Some descendants of Los Kineños work on the ranch, and some even live there as well.
