It’s an event folks in the Coastal Bend eagerly anticipate every year.

Area attorney Thomas J. Henry holds his big giveaway for the Thanksgiving season on Saturday, handing out thousands of turkeys to area families.

He and several volunteers are passing out the holiday meal staple across South Texas. It’s a tradition he’s been doing for years.

Among his locations will be for residents in Corpus Christi, Alice, San Diego and Freer.

“I really probably meet almost every person in line and they’re so nice and for people that need some help at this time of the year,” Henry said. “I don’t know, it just makes me feel so warm to be out there and meet them and know that they’re going to have a Thanksgiving day with family or friends that we helped a little bit.”

In previous years, Henry helped make Thanksgiving a little more complete for more than 350,000 people throughout South Texas. He says he’s been blessed and is happy to give back to those who need help.

“I know that many people have very different backgrounds, upbringings and opportunities and lack of opportunities,” he said. “And for me, I’m never going to judge anybody that may have issues because I don’t know them and I’m simply there for that day to give to them and to hope that they have a great Thanksgiving and they get to share it with friends and people that they love.”

The annual turkey giveaway is an event folks look forward to.

In past years, close to 10,000 to 15,000 people have circled his law office on Starr Street in downtown Corpus Christi.

Some families begin lining up as early as 2 a.m. to get in on the giveaway.

But whether you’re first or last, Henry has one promise:

“We try to do the best we can to provide for everyone.”

Henry will begin handing out turkeys at 8 a.m. Saturday in Alice, and continue at 9 a.m. in San Diego and 10 a.m. in Freer. He then will wrap up his giving at his law offices in downtown Corpus Christi around noon in a busy day filled with benevolence.
