West Oso district officials scrambling to shut down fake Facebook page

It might have started as an online prank. But it was no laughing matter to West Oso Independent School District officials.

Someone created a copy of the West Oso High School Facebook page, posting obscene messages on the site.

Some of these posts on the bogus page included foul language about the school’s lunch. There were also bogus quotes attributed to the superintendent, staff, and students.

The district is trying to identify whoever is behind the page.

Superintendent Conrado Garcia is asking for people in the community to help report these types of posts or fake sites to Facebook.

Garcia also advises the public to let common sense prevail.

The page owner announced shortly after 8 p.m. Friday that he would change the name and mascot picture of the page to avoid confusion with the district’s page.

Earlier, KRIS 6 sent a Facebook message to whoever is behind the comedy Facebook page.

An individual claiming to be the creator of the page responded but did not reveal their identity.

This person claims that the page wasn’t created to make fun of West Oso alumni but simply want to provide humor.

The district also says the person or persons who are behind this page could face legal trouble.
