CORPUS CHRISTI – Firefighters with the Corpus Christi Fire Department had to evacuate a couple of Flour Bluff residents from their homes after a downed power line caused a fence and gas meter to catch fire.

The fire broke out around 4:00 pm Saturday afternoon around Cartagena and Vega Drive in Flour Bluff.

When firefighters arrived, they had to call out for AEP crews to power down the electric lines and Corpus Christi Gas workers to shut off the gas to a couple of homes.

For safety precautions due to a gas meter on fire, firefighters asked a couple of residents to evacuate their homes and move across the street.

When gas and electric services were shut off, firefighters were able to knock out the fire.
