You may have heard of Ketamine as the “Club Drug” or it’s street name as “Special K”.
However, medical professionals say the drug’s medical uses are a game changer when treating for suicidal thoughts, ideation, and depression.
Medical Director of the Corpus Christi Medical Center, Dr. John Lusins says, “Now with the multiple indications that’s it’s being used for, for depression, chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, it’s now going to be offered here in Corpus Christi.”
Dr. Lusins says a small dose of Ketamine can take effect immediately. These treatments can also fight against overcrowding in hospitals.
However, there are potential side-effects. These can include high anxiety and transient hallucinations, but with high technology and research, doctors have learned how to decrease these side-effects.
Medical experts say the Ketamine will make it’s way to the South Texas Mental Health Associates in Corpus Christi at the beginning of December.
