U.S. fire departments respond to an average of one home fire every 86 seconds, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

During this National Fire Prevention Week, the Corpus Christi Fire Department wants to be sure everyone is in-the-know on fire safety.

To create an opportunity to reach all residents, all 18 fire stations will host an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Firefighters will be there to answer any and all safety questions residents may have.

This year’s fire prevention national campaign encourages everyone to “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere.”

Everyone is encouraged to take the following precautions:

Look around your home for potential fire hazards and eliminate them.
Listen for and know the sound of your smoke alarm and take appropriate action if activated.
Learn what you can do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe by having a fire escape plan.
