Conference aims to help those who work with children

“The Wave – Making a Splash for Kids” has been chosen as the theme for the first Coastal Bend Children’s Conference, co-sponsored by the Children’s Coalition of Aransas County and First Baptist Church Rockport.

This conference is designed to provide inspiration and information for all of those who work with or for children. It is for teachers, paraprofessionals, child care providers, Sunday School teachers, church nursery workers, Mother’s Day Out staff, family child care providers, in-home babysitters and parents.

Keynote speakers are Dr. Cathy McAuliffe, an internationally recognized child development expert, who is currently the Early Childhood Coordinator at Northwest Arkansas Community College, and Dr. Thomas Moore, children’s music recording artist, author and inspirational speaker. Dr. Moore is currently serving as the Head of the Early Childhood Department at Clinton College in Rockhill, S.C.

There will be a total of 27 breakout sessions presented by education specialists, teachers, trainers and education leaders from Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Kingsville and the local area.

Both keynote speakers will also present breakout sessions.

The day’s event will include morning coffee and donuts, a catered meal for a working lunch, door prizes and goody bags filled with surprises. There will also be exhibitors offering educational materials, apparel and information about state and national education organizations.

Child care staff will receive 6 clock hours of training to help satisfy child care licensing requirements.

Public school teachers will be able to register onsite with ESC Region 2 for Professional Development (CPE) credit.

The event is scheduled for Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church (1515 N. Live Oak in Rockport). Registration is $25.00 per person.
