While the holidays signal a time of joy and laughter for most, they can also trigger memories of those we have loved and lost.

When that happens, the difficulty of making it through a season of gladness while fighting feelings of sadness for the deceased becomes a reality for many.

Memory Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery is inviting all who have lost loved ones over the past 12 months to join them in pausing and remembering at a special holiday memorial service.

Mass will be celebrated this Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel (8200 Old Brownsville Rd.). Fr. Frank Martinez will preside, followed by the Blessing of the Tree (a tradition begun 21 years ago), and the release of doves.

Those who have lost someone close between November of 2017 and November of this year are asked to bring a wallet-sized photo to be put in a picture ornament (provided by Memory Gardens) and placed on the 10-foot Christmas tree. Those in the community who have past ornament frames are also invited to bring them for display.
