UPDATE: Power has been restored to the area.
A power outage on the south side of Corpus Christi has left residents without electricity since about 11 a.m. Thursday.
The AEP website is reporting 89 homes are affected, but AEP representatives said the number is closer to 41.
AEP-Texas spokesman Omar Lopez said a transformer which services the area near Timbergate Drive and S. Staples Street caught fire this morning, causing the outage.
The damage required two primary runs, or lines, of cable and cross arms to be replaced.
There is no estimated restoration time. It was expected the fixes would be completed by 6:30 p.m. Thursday, but Lopez said the condensation and moisture in the air likely is delaying repairs.
