The search for a missing seven-year-old boy at Lake Corpus Christi came to a quick and tragic end Sunday evening.

The body of seven-year-old Bo Henderson was found at Lake Corpus Christi State Park nearly five and a half hour after he was reported missing.

Sheriff Oscar Rivera, with the San Patricio County, said, “the little boy wandered off along the edge of the water, he was going back to the campsite where the family was staying and never got to the campsite.”

The incident happened around noon Sunday when the boy was fishing with his family at Lake Corpus Christi. Sheriff Rivera said that the boy was walking along the edge of the water and likely slipped in when nobody was looking.

The area around Catfish Cove inside the park was closed off as the search began.

Family members, volunteers, Constables with the Jim Wells and San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office looked for him.

The family is from Johnson City, Texas which is about an hour west of Austin.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Rivera has an important message for parents.

“There are a lot of folks out here, and you got to be careful with these children. You lose sight of them and something can go wrong in a minute’s time,” Rivera said.

At this time, investigators have ruled out foul play and added the situation appears to be a tragic accident.
