The Corpus Christi area has been named among the most dangerous metropolitan areas to live in the United States, according to FBI data analyzed by workandmoney.com.
FBI crime reports for 2017 were released in September and offer a window into the safety of all cities. The website took U.S. metropolitan areas with a population of 300,000 or more with the highest reported crime rates per 100,000 people in 2017, according to the FBI.
The Corpus Christi area, which includes Nueces, Aransas and San Patricio Counties ranked as 12th out of 28 top areas in the nation.
According to FBI data, the Corpus Christi area has a violent crime rate of 632 per 100,000 people. In 2017, there were 30 murders and 289 reported rapes in Corpus Christi, as well as 1,590 aggravated assaults, FBI data shows.
Other areas listed include Nashville, Las Vegas, Houston and Beaumont.
Memphis was listed as the area with the most violent crimes per 100,000 people, at 1,168.
