CORPUS CHRISTI – A couple of fishermen made a gruesome discovery after finding a man’s body floating near the USS Lexington.
The discovery was made around 1:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators with the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office were called out to the scene to transport the body.
Police say the man appears to be in his 20’s.
Police did not release the identity of the man pending next of kin notification.
Lt. Jay Clement, with the Corpus Christi Police Department, says, “By looking at it, it appears like he might have been fishing out there and he either slipped into the water or got down to get his line that was hooked and he fell in the water.”
Investigators are not sure how long the man’s body was in the water. Investigators also added they found fishing equipment near the man’s body.
Lt. Clement said, “If you can’t swim, don’t go in the water. If you drop your rod or your tackle gets stuck, let it go. It’s not worth losing your life over a hook or a rod and reel.”
