CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — All COVID-19 testing at the STX beef processing plant is reportedly complete.
"The health and safety of our employees is the most important responsibility each day for us," said STX Beef representatives in a statement. "We are proud of the continued diligence of our employees and the partnership of local, state, and federal partners, which has allowed STX Beef to rapidly test our team members."
Out of 747 employees tested at the STX meat plant, including contract workers and vendors, 63 tested positive in total. 160 family members of STX employees will be tested tomorrow. Of the 12 cases reported in Nueces County today, six were from the meat plant.
The meat processing plant has been deemed essential by federal law and has been ramping up health protocol in an effort to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.
"Face masks and face shields, enhanced facility sanitation procedures, thermal camera imagery, and social distancing in the lunchroom and break areas will continue," said the press release. "We continue to evaluate additional information as it becomes available and will make changes to our COVID-19 policies and procedures as needed."
No reports of any meat being impacted.
