Firefighters say a cotton picker combine caught fire while it was operating.
The incident happened in a cotton field near Farm Market 24 and County Road 44 around 3:00 pm Tuesday afternoon.
According to Annaville Fire Chief Michael Clack, the large vehicle was engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene.
Before firefighters arrived, Chief Clack says the operator noticed flames behind the cotton combine and used two fire extinguishers to try to put it out.
It wasn’t enough to knock down the flames. Chief Clack says a passer-by gave the operator three more fire extinguishers to put out the flames, but once the fire got inside diesel fuel line, the flames continued to grow.
Clack says the cotton picker combine had an estimated value of $750,000.
