KRIS 6 News speaks with 3B Randy Cesar about setting the Texas League Hitting Record

Corpus Christi Hooks 3B Randy Cesar has been a hitting machine this season, literally. It was the longest hitting streak in Texas League history, and it ended at 42 games. The former record was set 49 years ago. Cesar has hit in every game since May 4th, but that streak soon ended June 29, in a 2-1 loss, Cesar went 0-4. But, KRIS 6 spoke with Cesar about the hitting streak, what it meant to him, and of course what it means to be in a city like Corpus Christi, TX.

Hooks take on Arkansas in first “Raspas” night

The Hooks, or Raspas, as they will be called for the next two days, took on the Arkansas Travelers at Whataburger Field. Opossum tagged out trying to steal home at CC Hooks game

There was some added excitement at the end of last night’s Corpus Christi Hooks game at Whataburger field. Just after the game ended, grounds crews were preparing for the evening fireworks show, when an opossum ran out of a tarp that was being used to cover the field.

Raspas weekend at Whataburger Field

Hooks welcome World Series Championship Trophy & receive championship rings

Astros President Reid Ryan made a couple of very special deliveries to Whataburger Field Monday night. First off, he delivered the Astros World Series championship trophy so fans could take pictures with the next two nights.  He followed that up with World Series championship rings for all Hooks employees and coaches. The exact same rings the players received for winning the World Series. It was a very special moment never seen before at Whataburger Field. 

World Series Trophy on display at Hooks games

The Houston Astros made franchise history with their first World Series championship title in 2017. The win came just months after Hurricane Harvey devastated South Texas, bringing life and hope to a community struggling to rebuild.  The win and the Commissioner’s Trophy became a signal of strength to the Houston community and beyond.
